Chakras
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning "wheel or vortex'. We have seven major chakras. A healthy chakra vibrates evenly in a circular motion; it resembles a funnel, becoming wider as it gets further away from the body. The chakras are vortices that govern our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.
When a chakra is healthy, balanced and open, those specific parts of the body linked with it are healthy, too. When a chakra is blocked, damaged or closed, the balance in the chakra is disturbed and this is reflected in the health of the connected part of the physical body. Our chakras are affected by everything that happens to us. If good things happen to us, we feel light and sparkling and have lots of energy. The opposite happens when feel "under the weather", emotionally depressed or in a bad mood, as this can have a harmful effect on our energy system.
The body's endocrine system:
You can integrate the harmonizing of each chakra into a single Reiki treatment. The basic Reiki hand positions follow the location of the seven main chakras and correspond with the body's endocrine glandular system. The endocrine system regulates balance of the hormones and the metobolism. On an energetic level, the endocrine glands corresponds to the seven major chakras. Stress is one of the major causes when the balance of the body's metabolism is disturbed. The basic Reiki hand postions align with the location of the endocrine glands. Full body treatments with Reiki reduce tension and stress and support the body's natural ability to heal itself.
What are the chakras for?
Each chakra is linked with a specific organ and area of he body, and has an influence on its function. The chakras open to both the front and back of the body. The front aspects of the chakras are concerned with the emotions, and the back aspects with the person's will. All chakras are openings enabling energy to flow in and out of the aura, as well as into and out of the physical body. Each chakra absorbs Universal life energy , breaks it up into component parts and then sends it along energy lines to the nervous system, the endocrine glands and to the blood, to nourish the body.
